Former ISAFP chief Victor Corpus passes away at 79
Former Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) chief Brig. Gen. Victor Corpus has passed away. He was 79.
Corpus' famly confirmed his passing in a Facebook post earlier in the day.
"It is with great sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of our Uncle Victor Corpus... Rest In Peace Tito Vic. No more pain.. You are now in a better place with our Lord," the Facebook post read.
Corpus was known for his defection to the New People's Army (NPA).
In 1970 while still a young lieutenant, Corpus, a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) batch 1967, led a raid on the PMA armory. At the time, he had just defected to the NPA.
But in 1976, he became disenchanted with the movement, surrendered to the government, and was imprisoned for 10 years. He was given amnesty in 1987 by then President Corazon Aquino.
Corpus had held different posts in the AFP and was eventually appointed chief of military intelligence by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.—Hana Bordey/AOL, GMA Integrated News
