Luzon, Visayas grids on yellow alert


The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines on Tuesday placed the Luzon and Visayas grids on yellow alert.

In an advisory, NGCP said the Luzon grid will be on yellow alert from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

It said 18 power plants are on forced outage, while two are running on derated capacities, for a total of 1,518.9MW unavailable to the grid.

The Luzon grid has an available capacity of 14,799 megawatts (MW) against an expected peak demand of 13,690 MW.

The Visayas grid, on the other hand, will be on yellow alert from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

It has an available capacity of 2,742 MW against an expected peak demand of 2,571 MW.

The NGCP said 20 power plants are on forced outage, while nine are running on derated capacities, for a total of 604.4MW unavailable to the grid.

A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
