PNP: Crimes down by 63.59% from July 2022 to April 2024

The Philippine National Police on Saturday reported that crimes in the country have decreased by over 60 percent from July 2022 up to April 2024, adding that P32 billion worth of drugs were seized during the period.

“There is a 63.59% decrease in terms of our Peace and Order Indicator. And when we speak of Peace and Order Indicator, this includes the index crime where the eight focus crimes are also included,” PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said at a Saturday news forum.

Fajardo said the eight focus crimes include crimes against persons like murder, homicide, and other crimes against property such as robbery, theft, car-napping of motor vehicles and motorcycle theft.

Robbery and physical injury had the biggest declines, she added.

The said period, which was the first two years of the Marcos administration, also saw an increase in crime clearance and solution efficiency, Fajardo said.

A case was considered “cleared” if suspects were identified and cases were filed against them.

Meanwhile, a case was considered “solved” if the suspects were identified, arrested, and cases were filed against them.

As to the P32 billion in drugs seized during the period, Fajardo said this included the P13.3 billion in illegal drugs seized by authorities last April 15 in Alitagtag, Batangas. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
