BSP execs highest paid gov't officials in 2023 —COA


Officials of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) were the highest paid non-elected government officials in 2023, a Commission on Audit (COA) report showed.
 
The COA report, released on Thursday, showed BSP Governor Eli Remolona topping the list of highest paid non-elected government official in 2023 with salaries and allowances amounting to P35,478,813.42.

Remolona was followed by his predecessor, Felipe Medalla, who received P25 million in salaries and allowances in 2023.

At third place is BSP Deputy Governor Chuchi Fonacier with P26 million, followed by BSP Monetary Board member Anita Aquino with P25 million, BSP Monetary Board member Victor Tolentino with P24 million, and BSP Senior Assistant Governor Edna Villar with P23 million.

Rounding up the top 10 officials with highest salaries and allowances in 2023 are: BSP Senior Assistant Governor Elmore Capule with P22 million, BSP Senior Assistant Governor Johnny Noe E. Ravalo with P21 million and BSP Senior Assistant Governor Iluminada Sicat with P21 million.

Among Supreme Court Justices, Senior Associate Justice Benjamin Caguioa posted the highest earnings at P19.6 million (13th place), followed by Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo at P16.3 million (18th place), and Associate Justice Antonio Kho at P16.08 million (19th place).

Other justices of the high court who earned P12 million and above last yer include: Ramon Hernando with P13.1 million (25th place), Amy Javier with 12.6 million (26th place), Henri Inting with 12.5 million (27th place), Marvic Leonen with P12.4 million (28th place) and Rodil Zalameda with P12.1 million (29th place).

Ranking 30th among highest earners is Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang, who had P11.8 million.

Solicitor General and former Justice secretary Menardo Guevarra ranked 14th with P17.8 million, while Development Bank of the Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer Michael de Jesus ranked 15th with P17 million.

Government Service Insurance System chief Jose Veloso is at 17th place with P16.6 million.

Former Tourism secretary and BSP Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, on the other hand, placed 29th with P16.07 million. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
