86 green sea turtles hatchlings released in Catanduanes

A total of 86 green sea turtle hatchlings were released on the shores of Barangay Talisoy, Virac, Catanduanes.

Aside from the hatchlings, there are also 12 nests being monitored by the Municipal Agriculture's Office, which are situated along the beachfront of Talisoy.

Authorities hoped that the turtle hatchlings would safely make their way into the ocean, with the nesting season expected to continue until October 2024.

According to the Municipal Agriculture Office of Virac, since 2017, efforts have been intensified to closely monitor and protect the nesting sites of the green sea turtles in Virac.

Beach cleaning activities are only permitted from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to ensure that the turtles are not disturbed during their nesting period.

Authorities urged tourists to refrain from disturbing the nesting sites.

“Sa mga local tourist po na pumupunta dito sa Talisoy para maligo, sana wag nilang bulabugin yung mga sites na pinangingitlugan ng mga green sea turtle,” Gemma Tadoy, Municipal Agriculture Officer, said.—GMA Regional TV
