Spend one minute to pray for peace, says CBCP official

There is an urgent need to spend time to pray for peace to end the wars in Israel, Palestine, Ukraine, and other parts of the world, said an official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).

In a CBCP report, chairman of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on the Laity (ECL) Bishop Severo Caermare is encouraging dioceses to join "One Minute for Peace."

“On June 8, 2024, at 1 p.m., let us organize to unite in prayer for peace,” he was quoted as saying.

The "One Minute for Peace" is global prayer initiative launched in 2014 and organized by the International Forum of Catholic Action (IFCA).

The Council of the Laity of the Philippines or the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas, the lay arm of the ECL, is a member of the IFCA

According the CBCP report, June 8 was chosen as the date of the global prayer because it is the third anniversary of Pope Francis’ meeting with late Israeli President Shimon Peres and Palestinian Mahmoud Abbas in the Vatican. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
