LTO urges public to report 'wang-wang' use on hotline

The Land Transportation Office is encouraging the public to report government vehicles and personnel using sirens or wang-wang, blinkers, and similar flashing devices through its hotline 0929-292-0865.

According to Dano Tincungco's report on "24 Oras," President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. signed an administrative order prohibiting government officials and personnel from using sirens and blinkers.

Under Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code and Presidential Decree 96, signalling devices are only allowed for vehicles designated for official use by the military, law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and ambulances, among others.

The hotline, "Aksyon on the Spot,” was launched on Monday by the LTO to address complaints, including phishing scams preying on victims with fake traffic violations.

He added the LTO will distribute “Aksyon on the Spot” stickers to motorists, especially those renewing their vehicle licenses, to take advantage of the hotline's QR code, which makes it easier and faster to file formal complaints.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said it would collaborate with other law enforcement agencies to improve hotline enforcement and other activities.

Motorists may also report violators online via LTO social media accounts, the report added. —Sherylin Untalan/NB, GMA Integrated News
