Marcos' PFP formalizes alliance with NPC for 2025 elections

Marcos’ PFP formalizes alliance with NPC for 2025 elections

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) has found a new ally ahead of next year’s midterm elections: the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).

The two political parties signed an alliance agreement at the Makati Diamond Residences on Saturday evening.

“I think it’s very natural for people to think that this is being done for the midterm elections. Of course, that’s part of it, but really it is to formalize what already existed,” the chief executive said in a chance interview with reporters.

“We are trying to put together once again the team that will work together, and this really is derived from our original concept that progress will only come from unity.”

Of the 4,000 members of the NPC, 1,910 are incumbent public officials. The party also holds five seats in the Senate and 38 in the House of Representatives.

Senate slate

When asked if he was interested in making a comeback in the upper chamber, NPC chairperson and former Senate president Vicente Sotto III said that he was “90%” sure about it.

“I just want to make sure that I will be capable enough…mabuti na yung naghahanda (it’s better to be prepared),” he told reporters.

Sotto added that the party is also considering Senator Lito Lapid and Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay for their senatorial slate. There are also talks with former senators Panfilo Lacson, Manny Pacquiao, and Gringo Honasan, as well as Senator Pia Cayetano.

“We have been talking to each other; the possibility of us running is there. So we will finalize soon,” said Sotto.

The PFP also inked an alliance pact with the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats, led by Marcos’ cousin, House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Marcos also expressed interest in allying with the Nacionalista Party and the National Unity Party.

Marcos ran for president under the PFP in the 2022 national elections. The PFP, however, did not field a Senate slate that year. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
