Jailed UK national, Pinay GF escape prison with baby

MANILA, Philippines - A 36-year-old British national and his Filipino girlfriend managed to escape from a Philippine prison where they were locked up on adultery charges and flee to Thailand. According to a report from British news site Times Online, David Scott, a plasterer from Swindon, fled to Thailand and has petitioned the UK government to allow him and his family to return to UK. Last year, Scott and his girlfriend Cynthia Delfino, 29, were detained after being accused of adultery. Their daughter, Janina, was to be turned over to Cynthia's estranged husband Noriel Delfino. Noriel claimed the child was born before their marriage was annulled. Janina was conceived in the Philippines in April last year. Scott was arrested on December 30 after flying out to visit Cynthia Delfino. Noriel, who split from Cynthia several years ago, called the police after she refused to pay him £7,000 for the humiliation he suffered after he discovered she was dating Scott. Scott and Cynthia, who spent New Year in jail, were granted bail after giving Filipino officials a £1,000 bribe, the report said. Janina was born weeks later. The couple and their baby fled to Bangkok. They now intend to have DNA tests to prove Scott is Janina's father before applying to get her a British passport. Scott is hoping UK authorities will allow his family to go and live in Britain with him. "They charged us and put us in a large cell with scores of others. It was filthy and rats would come and go as they pleased. Three days later we were eventually offered bail of about £150, but we had to pay over £1,000 under the table just to get it. I could see this case was not about right or wrong. It was about who could make money. As soon as we got out of sight we just ran," Scott said. - GMANews.TV
