Marcos: Nothing done in previous admins on Yolanda rehab

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Monday said nothing was done in the previous administrations when it comes to the rehabilitation measures for the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda.

Marcos said rehabilitations started just two years ago, noting that nothing was done by the previous Duterte and Aquino administrations.

"Even up to now, it's up to the governors also… and even some of the officials hindi talaga pa tayo mag fully recover, di ko masasabi na naka fully recover na tayo sa Yolanda (we have not yet recovered, I can't say that we have fully recovered from Yolanda)," Marcos said in a chance interview during the distribution of land titles in Tacloban City.

''With all those rehabilitation, you know we only really started two years ago because nothing was done in the previous administration, nothing was done in the administration before that so 12 years on, ngayon pa lang talaga natin naasikaso nang mabuti,'' he added.

In 2016, former President Rodrigo Duterte criticized the government's rehabilitation efforts for the survivors of the super typhoon, especially in providing shelters.

Last year, Marcos called on Filipinos to remember the victims of Yolanda that are still unaccounted for.

To recall, he attended a mass and ceremony at Tacloban's seaside convention center, where many people were sheltering when Yolanda hit on November 8, 2013. Super Typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan) left more than 7,000 people dead or missing. It also affected more than 16 million people or 3 million families across the country.

Meanwhile, Marcos promised that he would return to Tacloban City to provide more assistance to the residents in the province.

''Babalik po ako dito, at magdadala pa ng mas maraming tulong. Kagaya po ng sabi ng ating kilala noong giyera, Eastern Visayas, I shall return,'' Marcos said.

(I will return here and bring more help. Just like what was mentioned during the war, Eastern Visayas, I shall return.)

Marcos led the distribution of land titles and turnover of support services to farmers in Region VIII (Eastern Visayas) at the Tacloban City Convention Center in Tacloban City.

According to the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), a total of 5,438 land titles were distributed for the beneficiaries in the region.

Of this number, 5,400 are electronic titles issued under the Support to Parcelization of Lands for Individual Titling (SPLIT) Project while 38 are Certificates of Land Ownership Award (CLOAs) under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).—LDF/RF, GMA Integrated News
