PDEA destroys P9B worth of illegal drugs

Illegal drugs worth P9,102,467,185 were destroyed by PDEA.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Thursday destroyed illegal drugs worth P9,102,467,185 at the Integrated Waste Management, Inc. (IWMI) in Trece Martires City, Cavite.

PDEA said the 2,435,619 grams of dangerous drugs were evidence seized from different operations by law enforcement agencies that were no longer needed in court.

“The pieces of drug evidence were destroyed through thermal decomposition or thermolysis. Exposed to temperatures of over 1,000 degrees centigrade, all dangerous drugs were completely decomposed or broken down, and are impossible to reconstitute,” PDEA said.

Most of the burned illegal drugs were shabu, marijuana, and ephedrine.

Included in the burned items are the 1.2 tons of shabu seized in the April 15 checkpoint operation in Alitagtag, Batangas.

“PDEA continues to practice the swift destruction of all confiscated drug evidence as soon as permitted by the courts,” the agency said. --VAL, GMA Integrated News
