New Zealand’s Deputy PM pays courtesy call on Marcos
New Zealand's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. at Malacañang Palace.
During the meeting, Marcos told Peters that he is very pleased to welcome him after the visit of Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to the Philippines in April.
He recalled that they had agreed on many things and one of them was that smaller countries should have a ''joint positioning'' when it comes to geopolitical issues.
''So, I am happy that you're able to come here and the time that you’re here, I hope that you’ll be able to be in touch with some of our officials and also those in the private sector to develop some of these ideas that we spoke about with the Prime Minister,'' Marcos said.
Marcos and Luxon have jointly expressed “serious concern” regarding heightening tensions in the South China Sea.
They reaffirmed the right of freedom of navigation and overflight accorded by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). — BM, GMA Integrated News
