After 'naked woman' incident Raffy Tulfo asks: Does NAIA have enough security training?

Senator Raffy Tulfo pointed out that airport security seemed to have been unprepared for the situation.

Days after a Vietnamese woman roamed naked at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3, a lawmaker on Friday posed the question of whether airport officials are fit to handle such a "special situation."

The video made the rounds online last week and Senator Raffy Tulfo pointed out that airport security seemed to have been unprepared for the situation.

"Kapansin-pansin sa lumabas na video na tila nagulat at hindi sigurado ang airport security kung ano ang gagawin sa sitwasyong katulad nito – hindi napigilan ng security ang babae na patuloy na maglakad patungo sa boarding gate na nagdulot ng komosyon sa airport,” said the new chairperson of the Senate public services committee in a statement.

(It can be noticed in the video that the airport personnel were not aware of what they will do to address this situation. The security personnel were not able to stop the woman from going to the boarding gate which caused a commotion in the airport.)

Tulfo said he wants to get an answer through a senate inquiry.

“Mayroon bang sapat na training ang airport security personnel kung paano ang gagawin sa mga pangyayaring katulad nito?” he said.

(Does airport security personnel have enough training on how to deal with situations like this?)

"Maghahain ako ng isang Senate resolution para paimbestigahan ang pangyayaring ito, partikular na ang pag-handle ng security protocol sa airport facilities,” added Tulfo.

(I will file a Senate resolution to investigate this incident, particularly the handling of the security protocol at airport facilities.)

An airport staffer said the foreigner was allegedly offloaded from her flight going to Ho Chi Minh City on June 8, 2024.

“...Na-offload ata. Then dumiretso sa toilet, public toilet sa departure, sa CR ng babae. Then, lumabas siya roon, naghubad. Hindi namin alam kung ano’ng dahilan,” said APO1 Michael Ronald de Guzman, NAIA Terminal 3 airport police.

(She was offloaded I guess. Then she went straight to the public toilet at the departure. She came out and undressed herself. We don’t know why she did that.)

The airport personnel immediately provided the Vietnamese woman with clothes, water, and a wheelchair. The airport’s medical team also calmed her down.

After her condition improved, the Vietnamese woman was allowed to travel back to Vietnam the next day.

Tulfo, meanwhile, pointed out the importance of identifying the roles and duties of the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group, Manila International Airport Authority, Office for Transportation Security, blue guards and other concerned agencies “to avoid blame game.” —VAL, GMA Integrated News
