Ateneo leads 56 PH universities in THE IR ranking
Ateneo De Manila University remained as the leading Philippine higher education institution (HEIs) in the 2024 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings (THE IR), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) said Friday.
CHED said Ateneo maintained its place in the 201-300 bracket.
Meanwhile, the University of the Philippines, De La Salle University, and Ifugao State University tied for the second spot, CHED said.
It added 56 HEIs were included in the ranking, a 93% increase from the 29 HEIs ranked last year.
CHED noted this showed a consecutive increase for six years with one HEI ranking in 2019, four in 2020 and 2021, 15 in 2022.
THE IR ranks HEIs around the world based on their real-world impact as measured by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
It is the only global performance table that assesses universities against SDGs and uses carefully calibrated indicators to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons across four broad areas — research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching.
“The continuous growth in the number of globally ranked universities in THE IR underscores the unwavering commitment of Philippine HEIs to achieving the United Nations SDGs and making a positive societal impact,” CHED Secretary Popoy De Vera said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the country was among the top 10 countries with the most number of participating institutions.
“This collective effort reflects the growing understanding that universities have a vital role to play in addressing global challenges,” De Vera said.
“We are witnessing a paradigm shift where universities are actively integrating social development goals into their core mission,” he added.—Joahna Lei Casilao/AOL, GMA Integrated News
