The Philippines has four new defense and armed forces attachés (DAFAs) to Russia, Japan, Indonesia, and Spain.

In a statement, the Armed Forces of the Philippines said Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. welcomed the new DAFAs during a meeting at the General Headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo on Wednesday.

The new DAFAs are Colonel Franklin Fabic for Russia, Captain Peter Tolentino III for Japan, Colonel Emerson delos Santos for Indonesia, and Colonel Joseph Jeremias Cirilo Dator for Spain.

According to the AFP, they were selected “for their outstanding qualifications and dedication to advancing overseas Philippine defense interests.”

Brawner said the roles of DAFAs are critical in pursuing mutual understanding and cooperation with partner countries at a strategic level.

The AFP said it remains committed to boosting its global presence and ensuring its diplomatic corps continues to effectively represent Philippine interests on the international stage. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
