LTO: Over 10K unregistered vehicles apprehended in June
Over 10,000 vehicles were apprehended nationwide in June under the “No Registration, No Travel” policy of the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
In a statement on Monday, LTO said of the 10,461 vehicles apprehended last month, 9,212 were issued with traffic violation tickets while 1,601 vehicles were impounded.
Motorcycles were the most apprehended vehicles with 6,824, followed by tricycles (1,787), private vans (954), private sedans (451), and trucks (230).
Under the “No Registration, No Travel,” violators face a penalty of P10,000 fine.
The LTO also noted that some apprehended vehicles were colorum or were being used for public transportation without the necessary permits.
The LTO earlier imposed that a court order must be presented before the release of impounded colorum vehicles, despite the payment of fines by the registered owner.
“Patunay lang ito na hindi titigil ang inyong LTO hangga't hindi narerehistro ang lahat ng sasakyan dahil ito ay hindi lang obligasyon sa gobyerno bilang kapalit ng pagmamay-ari ng sasakyan kundi para sa kaligtasan ng lahat dahil ang kasama sa pagpaparehistro ang pag-inspect roadworthiness,” said LTO chief Vigor Mendoza.
“Your LTO commits to the Filipino people that we will be aggressive in the campaign against colorum vehicles and unregistered motor vehicles because this is part of our mandate, which is to ensure that all road users are safe,” he added. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/KBK, GMA Integrated News
