Speaker Romualdez assures sufficient funding for military in 2025 budget
Speaker Martin Romualdez on Monday vowed to provide the Armed Forces of the Philippines with sufficient funding under the proposed P6.352 trillion national budget for 2025 to ensure its modernization and competence.
Romualdez, cousin of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., made the assurance during the Philippine Air Force’s 77th anniversary celebration.
“We are committed to providing the necessary legislative support to ensure that the modernization programs and welfare initiatives for our armed forces are fully funded and effectively implemented,” Romualdez said.
“We will continue to work on policies that enhance our defense capabilities, improve the conditions of service for our soldiers, and ensure that the Philippines remains safe and secure,” Romualdez added.
The country’s defense system, Romualdez said, must be dynamic, robust, and forward-looking, all of which the Marcos administration is working on by providing advanced aircraft, cutting-edge radar systems, and state-of-the-art equipment.
“These advancements are not merely for show. They are essential tools for our personnel to execute their mandate with greater efficiency. They are a testament to our unwavering resolve to safeguard our nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Romualdez said.
In addition, the Speaker said that the Marcos administration was just as committed to ensuring the welfare of the Armed Forces by providing them and their families with health care and other benefits.
“The bravery and gallantry of our personnel in protecting our territory and sovereign rights cannot be overstated. Your actions are a vital line of defense against those who seek to undermine our nation's peace and security,” Romualdez said.
“Your swift and efficient actions during calamities have also saved countless lives and provided critical support to communities in distress. Rest assured, the administration and the Filipino people stand firmly behind you, ready to support and uplift you as you continue to protect and serve our country,” he added. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
