Archbishop calls for prayers to 'protect families' amid push to legalize divorce
An archbishop called for prayers protecting marriages and families amid the push to pass the proposed Divorce Law.
In his homily during the opening of the 2024 National Conference of Youth Ministers (NCYM), Archbishop John Du of Palo, Leyte said families are a great source of hope for young people and divorce is “a threat to family ties.”
“The destruction of families is one of the great reasons why many young people today are lost in hope,” Du said.
“And so we pray that the absolute divorce bill will not be approved,” he said.
Hundreds of participants from various dioceses gathered for the five-day NCYM at the Palo Metropolitan Cathedral.
NCYM is a biennial event where youth ministers gather to connect, share information, and develop new skills. It also fosters inter-ministerial collaboration within the youth ministry, strengthening its role as a vital part of the church’s mission.
Earlier, the CBCP said they can only encourage discussions on the Divorce bill as they also point out that absence of such a law should be a reason for couples to deliberate carefully before deciding to enter into marriage. —Sundy Locus/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
