Customs to probe alleged recycling of seized vape products

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) announced on Tuesday that it will be launching an investigation into the alleged recycling and resale of seized vape products.

In a news release, the BOC said Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio directed BOC Intelligence Group head Deputy Commissioner Juvymax Uy to initiate a comprehensive fact-finding probe.

The bureau said the items were recently confiscated and reportedly placed under a “safekeeping order.''

The BOC said Rubio’s directive aims to verify the validity of these allegations and to identify any BOC personnel involved, along with their individual and collective roles in the matter.

“The investigation will also assess any potential administrative and criminal liabilities associated with these claims,” it said.

“The Intelligence Group has been instructed to submit weekly status reports and a detailed fact-finding report within 30 days of receipt of the order,” it added.

In response to the commissioner's directive, the Intelligence Group has expressed its commitment to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, according to the BOC. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
