DOTr partners with Meralco for relocation of poles, wires affected by railway projects

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Friday said it has partnered with the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) for the relocation of the latter’s power facilities that would be affected by  railway projects.

In a news release, the DOTr said it held a business review meeting with the power distribution utility on Thursday, August 1.

“We are here to collaborate with Meralco to ensure smooth implementation of our rail projects by coordinating the relocation of power facilities to be affected by the subsequent phases of these railway construction,” said Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista.

The DOTr said Meralco has completed 47% of about 700 relocation work orders from the agency.

"We are grateful to Meralco for acting swiftly on these work orders," said Bautista.

The Transportation chief said the relocation of power facilities would be essential to meet the DOTr’s construction schedule for rail projects.

“We want Meralco to be on board so we can efficiently solve right-of-way issues and accomplish these projects as soon as possible,” said Bautista.
