UAE sends humanitarian aid for Carina victims
The United Arab Emirates has sent humanitarian aid for victims of Typhoon Carina, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said Monday.
In a statement, the MIAA said that the flight carrying the humanitarian aid arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 on July 30.
Present during the arrival were UAE Ambassador to the Philippines Mohamed Obaid Alqataam Alzaabi, Interior Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian, among others, according to the MIAA.
“This assistance is a manifestation of the Philippines' and the UAE's continuing cooperation and commitment to support each other in times of need,” it said.
Metro Manila, along other provinces, was placed under a state of calamity in July due to the flooding caused by the Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Carina.
Previously, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said that the affected population reached 4,839,002 people or 1,317,111 families across all the country's regions due to the monsoon, Carina, and tropical cyclone Butchoy.
Meanwhile, the reported death toll stood at 39.
