3.5 million students affected due to vog —DepEd
Over 3.5 million students were affected by the suspension of face-to-face classes in some schools in Metro Manila, Calabarzon, and Mimaropa due to the volcanic smog (vog) spotted in Taal Volcano, the Department of Education (DepEd) said Wednesday.
Recent data by DepEd showed that a total of 3,586,353 learners and 112,791 personnel were affected by the suspension of in-person classes in 2,967 schools across the three regions.
Most of these learners, or more than 2.8 million of them, came from Calabarzon, followed by 730,336 in the National Capital Region (NCR), and 5,922 in Mimaropa.
Some of the schools which suspended in-person classes beginning August 19, Monday, have already resumed classes, while others, particularly in Calabarzon, have yet to make an announcement.
DepEd on Monday authorized schools in NCR and Calabarzon that are affected by the volcanic smog to suspend face-to-face classes until it is safe to return to schools.
As of Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said that no more vog was observed in the Taal Volcano. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
