New PCO chief: Marcos still the best spox for PH

Newly-designated Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Cesar Chavez on Thursday emphasized that the best spokesman for the Philippines is still President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr.

Chavez made the assertion when asked if he would speak for the President given that Marcos has no designated spokesperson in his administration.

''The best spokesperson, the best salesperson of this government, of this country is still the President, but I’ll be helping the President and our team to explain interconnectedness of policies', especially those policies that will require more information campaigns, more discussions,'' Chavez said.

Chavez, who replaced lawyer and former journalist Cheloy Garafil, believes that the latest development in the PCO is not an abrupt change in Marcos' communications arm.

''This is not new at hindi ito limited sa Office of the President... even other government agencies,'' Chavez said.

Asked if there would be changes in major offices such as the PCO as well as in state-run media entities Radyo Pilipinas and PTV 4, Chavez said he intends to focus on their mandates.

'Let’s focus on the mandate. Let’s focus on the mission. If along the way magkakainitan, it’s okay. Importante 'yung mission eh. Ang tingin ko 'yan ang objective ko dito ngayon. Maliwanag ang mission sa bawat isa ng PCO,'' Chavez said.—RF, GMA Integrated News
