VP Sara slams Boying Remulla: He doesn’t know the law
After Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said that her remarks in her last press conference were “very disturbing,” Vice President Sara Duterte hit back at him by saying that he knows nothing about the law.
Duterte was referring to the reaction of Remulla on her statement that she would dig up the body of the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and throw it in the West Philippine Sea if the attacks against her do not stop.
“Ipagdasal natin ang Pilipinas dahil we have a Secretary of Justice na hindi alam ang batas. There is a big difference between talking about desecration of a body and actually desecrating a body. Talking about desecration of a body is not desecration of the dead,” she said in an ambush interview.
(Let's pray for the Philippines because we have a Secretary of Justice who does not know the law.)
“Dapat sana siguro as a lawyer, maintindihan niya ‘yun kaagad but apparently, sabi nga ng iba, kapag mabilis ka, meron talagang mabagal ang pick up,” she added.
(Maybe as a lawyer, he should have understood that right away but apparently, as others say, when you are quick-witted, there are others who can pick up slowly.)
Remulla, who is a lawyer, earlier said that the Department of Justice (DOJ) is looking into the possible legal consequences of the recent remarks made by the Vice President.
The Justice Secretary also said that Duterte breached some “moral principles.”
“Marami kasing approaches diyan (There are many approaches to that). Pero it desecrates the memory of a person, it desecrates the peaceful state that he must be in, having already perished,” Remulla told reporters Monday.
“There are many other moral principles that are being violated and we are looking at the legal aspects. We are conducting a study,” he added.
‘Unstable mind’
In response to Duterte’s statement, Remulla said it was “shockingly disturbing” how such words came from a former Education secretary, adding that the Vice President may have an “unstable” mind.
“How can we entrust our youth to such a person who can utter such words and reflect such thoughts that are against human decency and good behavior?” The Justice chief asked.
“I think it’s just shocking, and we’ll just leave it at that and I think we all know the score of what kind of Vice President we have, how seemingly unstable her mind can be. And this country does not deserve a future with the kind of person like this,” he added.
As to the possible violation of the law that Duterte may have done following her pronouncement against late President Marcos Sr., Remulla said that the DOJ will still study it.
“The threat to commit a crime is not a crime itself. But sometimes it can be, like if the threat is murder, it’s grave threats. But in this case, we have to study it properly,” he explained.
“And we have not finished everything because it seems so impossible and reprehensible that we cannot point into a crime that is something shocking to human senses. Parang ‘di tayo maniwala na walang crime [we won’t believe that there’s no crime]. That’s why we’re still studying it,” he added.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
