4,646 election bets register socmed accounts –Comelec
A total of 4,646 candidates in the 2025 national and local elections (NLE) registered their official social media accounts with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) less than a week before the December 13, 2024, deadline.
According to the Comelec, the submissions as of December 7, 2024, include:
- 27 senatorial candidates,
- 4,500 local aspirants, and
- 119 party-list organizations.
Additionally, 2,509 aspirants submitted hard copies of their documents to the poll body.
The Comelec reiterated that the deadline for registering online campaign platforms—set for Friday, December 13, 2024—would not be extended.
Comelec Resolution No. 11064 mandates all candidates, political parties, and campaign teams to register their official online platforms, including social media accounts, websites, podcasts, blogs, and vlogs, with the Comelec Education and Information Division.
The registration must be completed within 30 calendar days after the filing of certificates of candidacy or until December 13, 2024.
An election task force will review all applications before endorsing them for approval or denial to the Commission en banc.
Approved registrations will then be published on the Comelec’s official website and social media pages.
The Comelec recently amended the resolution, exempting privately owned accounts endorsing candidates from the mandatory registration. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
