Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman has approved the release of the P30.409-billion regular pension requirements of military and uniformed personnel (MUP) for the first quarter of the year, to be charged against the Pension and Gratuity Fund (PGF).
The largest share or P16.752 billion has been released to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) - General Headquarters Proper, and the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office under the Department of National Defense (DND).
The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) also released P13.297 billion to the attached agencies of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), including Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), and National Police Commission (NPC).
The agency likewise released P350.680 million for the pension of 2,836 retired uniformed personnel of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) - Philippine Coast Guard, and P8.530 million for the 34 pensioners under the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA).
The releases are based on the actual pension payrolls submitted by the MUP agencies as of December 31, 2024.
According to Pangandaman, she signed the release of the budget to the concerned agencies as soon as the required documents were completed, citing the immediate need of pensioners.
“For many MUP retirees and their families, pensions are a lifeline that ensure their daily needs are met, katulad po ng pambili ng gamot o pagkain (like funds for medicine or food),” she said in a statement released Tuesday.
