PNP: Arrested election gun ban violators now at 274

A total of 274 persons have been arrested for violating the election gun ban as of January 21, 2025.

A total of 274 persons have been arrested for violating the election gun ban as of Tuesday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Wednesday.

In an update, the PNP said most of the nabbed individuals were reported in Metro Manila with 75, followed by Central Luzon with 67 and Central Visayas with 32.

Among the arrested election gun ban violators are two Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel, two personnel from other government agencies, an appointed government official, 10 security guards, and two foreign nationals.

A total of 279 firearms were seized including 128 revolvers, 74 pistols, seven explosives, six shotguns, one M15 A2 rifle, and 63 others.

Based on Comelec Resolution No. 11067, the gun ban is effective starting January 12 to June 11 in a bid to lessen election-related violence.

The election period also started on January 12, with Comelec checkpoints set up.

The campaign period for senatorial candidates and party-list groups is set from February 11 to May 10, 2025. Meanwhile, the campaign period for candidates for House of Representatives and parliamentary, provincial, city and municipal elections will be from March 28 to May 10.

Election Day is on May 12, but overseas voters may cast their votes from April 13 to May 12, while local absentee voters may cast their votes from April 28 to 30.
