PH commemorates International Holocaust Remembrance Day with poignant music
In the Philippines, International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2025 was marked with poignant music, honoring the memory of the six million European Jews who perished during the Holocaust.
This dark chapter in history, characterized by the genocide of Jewish people, occurred from 1941 to 1945 under Nazi Germany, led by Adolf Hitler.
The Holocaust resulted in the deaths of at least six million European Jews, which represented two-thirds of the Jewish population in Europe at that time.
During the observance, Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines, Ilan Fluss, emphasized the significance of January 27 as the day designated by the United Nations for this remembrance.
He stated, “This is a time for everyone to reflect on the atrocities of the Holocaust. It is also a way to honor the memory of the six million Jewish men, women, and children who were mercilessly slaughtered simply because they were Jewish. We must reaffirm our commitment to ensure: Never Again.”
Germany has long stood in solidarity with Israel in the fight against any recurrence of such horrific events.
Ambassador Andreas Pfaffernoschke from the German Embassy in the Philippines reinforced this sentiment, stating, “We do not want and must not forget what has happened. The Holocaust must never be repeated again, anywhere in the world. It is our collective obligation to guarantee this, which is why the remembrance of the Holocaust is a moral duty for the global community, especially for us Germans.”
The event, according to both the Israeli and German diplomats in Manila, must serve as a powerful reminder of the need for vigilance against hatred and intolerance in all forms. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
