Palau president to have official visit in Manila
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is set to welcome Palau President Surangel Whipps Jr. to the Philippines for an official visit next week.
According to the Presidential Communications Office, Whipps will be in Manila from February 23 to 24, 2025.
During the two leaders’ meeting, Marcos is expected to exchange views with Whipps about expanding existing bilateral cooperation on fisheries, trade, investment, connectivity and people-to-people ties.
They will also explore new avenues of collaboration, particularly on the health and labor sectors.
Marcos and Whipps will also tackle South-South cooperation, regional concerns and common advocacies at the multilateral arena.
According to the PCO, almost 3,000 Filipinos living and working in Palau make up nearly 17% of Palau’s population.
In 2027, the two countries will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
