Robin Padilla thinks Trump's stand on Ukraine-Russia preventing World War 3

Senator Robin Padilla has expressed support for US President Donald Trump's stand on the Ukraine and Russia war, saying the American leader's position is preventing World War III.

"Saludo sa iyo Pangulo Trump. Para sa kapayapaan. Para sa Interes ng mas nakararaming tao. Walang dahilan para mag gera. Ang yaman ng mundo ay maaring paghati hatian hindi pag awayan," Padilla said in a Facebook post.

(I salute President Trump. For peace. For the interest of the greater majority. There is no reason for war. The wealth of the world can be shared, not fought over.)

"Sintido komon lamang po. Hindi papayag ang Russia na talunin ng Ukraine o ng NATO. Nuclear Weapon ang magiging sandigan ng Russia. World war 3 po yan. Kaya't Para sa katahimikan ng ating mga anak at apo, In shaa Allah ngayong ramadan ay Mag isip isip na po tayo kung ano ba talaga ang hanap natin para umunlad ang bayan natin. Let us make our Philippines great again!" he ended.

(It's common sense. Russia won't let itself be defeated by Ukraine or NATO. Russia will depend on nuclear weapons. That's World War 3. So for the peace of our children and grandchildren, in sha Allah, let's think of what we really want for our country to prosper. Let's make our Philippines great again.)

Padilla made the remark as he posted a news report on Kremlin's statement, saying the United State's shift in foreign policy aligns with Russia's position.

Last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Trump clashed in an exchange at the White House over the former's war with Russia.

According to a Reuters report, Zelenskiy had seen the meeting in the Oval Office as an opportunity to convince the United States not to side with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who ordered the invasion of Ukraine three years ago.

Instead US President Trump and Vice President JD Vance laid into Zelenskiy, saying he showed disrespect, driving relations with Kyiv's most important wartime ally to a new low. The Ukrainian leader was told to leave, a US official said.

Trump has lurched towards Russia since taking over as president, shocking traditional allies in Europe and beyond and leaving Ukraine increasingly vulnerable. Friday's outburst was the most public display of that shift.

Vance stressed the need for diplomacy to resolve the biggest conflict in Europe since World War Two, while Zelenskiy, with his arms folded, countered that Putin could not be trusted in any talks and noted that Vance had never visited Ukraine.

Zelenskiy openly challenged Trump over his softer approach toward Putin, urging him to "make no compromises with a killer."

Trump, whose team said he and Vance were "standing up for Americans," quickly took to Truth Social after the meeting to accuse Zelenskiy of disrespecting the United States.

"I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved," he wrote, using an alternative spelling of the leader's name. "He can come back when he is ready for Peace."

The heated exchange between Zelenskiy and Trump prompted reaction from different world leaders across the globe.

Philippine President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has repeatedly expressed support for Zelenskiy's  “search for peace,” as he said the Philippines is “watching with admiration, the bravery and nationalism that has been displaced by the Ukrainians” amid Russia’s attacks.

The Philippines also expressed its support for Ukraine's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, voting at the UN General Assembly to denounce Russia’s invasion, expressing “explicit condemnation” against “the use of force against the political independence and territorial integrity of any state.”

In June, 2024, Zelenskyy visited the Philippines and met with Marcos in Malacañang.
