Emergency loan application for GSIS members in calamity-hit areas to run until March

Emergency loan application for GSIS members in calamity-hit areas to run until March

The application for emergency loans in areas that were hit by calamities, particularly in Palawan and in Nueva Ecija, will run until March, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) said Monday.

GSIS President and General Manager Jose Arnulfo Veloso said that the applications started last February and will cover members who are residing or working in municipalities affected by the torrential rains in Palawan and last year’s Typhoon Kristine in Nueva Ecija.

(In Palawan, we currently have two emergency loan windows for those who were affected by the heavy rains in the Municipality of Aborlan and in the Iwahig Penal Colony. They can apply from February 24 until March 23, 2025. In Puerto Princesa City, we already started last February 20 and will run until March 19.)

(Aside from Palawan, we also have an emergency loan available for those affected by the Typhoon Kristine in Nueva Ecija, particularly in the Municipality of Carranglan and Licab. Our members there can apply from February 14 to March 13.)

The GSIS official said that active members old-age/disability pensioners in the said areas without an existing emergency loan can borrow P20,000. Meanwhile, those with existing emergency loans can borrow up to P40,000.

(Our GSIS emergency loan has 6% interest rate, payable for up to three years, and covered by the redemption insurance so the payment would not be overwhelming.)  — Vince Angelo Ferreras/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
