SC appoints Manuel Gaerlan as first Judiciary Marshal chief

The Supreme Court on Monday appointed retired Brigadier General Manuel Gaerlan as the first Chief Marshal of the Office of the Judiciary Marshal, which seeks to address threats against the judiciary.

Gaerlan took his oath before Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo at the SC session hall.

“As Chief Marshal, Gen. Gaerlan will lead efforts to ensure the security of judges, court personnel, and judiciary properties across the country,” the SC said in a statement.

Prior to his appointment, the SC said Gaerlan served in the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police.

He was previously the division chief and assistant director for operations of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and chief of the Provincial Intelligence and Investigation Branch of the Cavite Provincial Police.

He was also a member of the Presidential Security Group under late President Fidel Ramos.

According to the SC, Gaerlan will be supported by three deputy marshals assigned in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
