Comelec: Printing of Eleksyon 2025 ballots 92% complete
The printing of the official ballots for Eleksyon 2025 is nearly complete as the Commission on Elections (Comelec) finished printing around 92% of the 72 million ballot requirement for the 2025 national and local elections (NLE).
“Nasa 92% na kami. Almost 6 million na balota na lang ang kailangan i-imprenta,” Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia told reporters on Tuesday.
(We’re now at 92%. Almost 6 million ballots remain to be printed.)
According to Garcia, the poll body is now targeting to expedite the manual and machine verification of the printed ballots to meet the deadline for the distribution of the ballots. At least 32 million printed official ballots have been verified so far.
“Dapat mapa-improve namin ang verification process kung kaya naman kinakailangan magtanggal kami nang ilang gamit sa NPO [National Printing Office], paluwagin namin ang espasyo at magdagdag kami ng mga makina at tao na magve-verify,” said Garcia.
(We need to improve the verification process, so we will create additional space at the NPO and deploy more machines and personnel to expedite it.)
“On average, kinakailangan makapag-verify tayo ng at least 1.2 million na balota on a single day para makaabot kami sa self-imposed deadline para sa distribution ng mga balota,” he said.
(On average, we need to verify at least 1.2 million ballots daily to meet our self-imposed deadline.)
The poll body resumed printing on January 27, weeks after it was suspended following the Supreme Court's (SC) issuance of temporary restraining orders against the disqualification of some aspirants.
Garcia previously said the Comelec was printing at least 1.7 million ballots per day as they aim to finish by March and the ballot verification by April.
“Pagkatapos ng printing ng balota, gagamitin na namin ang mga tauhan namin na nag-iimprenta ng balota para sa pagve-verify ng mga balota,” he added.
(After the ballot printing, we will deploy our personnel for ballot verification.)
In January, the Comelec deputized NPO, allowing the use of the four printing machines of the NPO and the two machines procured by South Korean firm Miru Systems Inc. to ensure the “proper, satisfactory, and timely” completion of the reprinting of the official ballots for the May polls.
Earlier this month, the Quezon City government announced that the Amoranto Sports Complex will be closed from March 1 to April 30 for the storage and processing of official ballot documents from the Comelec. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
