Querubin bats for agricultural reforms for more food supply, lower prices
Senatorial candidate Ariel Querubin has vowed to fight for agricultural reforms to lower food prices should he land a Senate seat in the coming 2025 midterm elections.
In a statement issued Thursday, Querubin conducted a dialogue with farmers on Wednesday to discuss his plans to increase local food production and lower prices of basic goods.
He also batted for the use of idle military lands for farming and livestock production, as well as forming agricultural cooperatives with the military.
“Maglalagay tayo dito sa mga idle na mga military reservation ng poultry, piggery, [and] even grazing land [para sa mga nag-aalaga] dito ng kambing, mga baka. And then the rest, taniman natin yan ng high-value crops… Kapag ka dumami na yung supply, kusang bababa yung [presyo ng bilihin],” Querubin said.
(We will place poultry, piggeries, [and] even grazing land for sheep and cows at idle military reservations. And then the rest, we will be planting high-value crops… When there are more supply, the [price of goods] will automatically become lower.)
“Dapat sana para mapalapit din natin yung taumbayan sa ating gobyerno through the military, magtayo ng cooperative,” he added.
(We hope to bring the people closer to our government through the military by establishing a cooperative.)
Among Querubin’s platforms for his 2025 senatorial campaign is the“Busog na Tiyan” platform, which intends to boost food supply to lower prices and make food accessible for Filipinos. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
