American fugitive linked to big-time drug cartel nabbed by BI

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested a high-priority American fugitive linked to a big-time foreign drug cartel in Albay.

According to a 24 Oras report by John Consulta on Wednesday, BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) nabbed the 50-year-old suspect in Polangui, Albay, where he was said to have hidden since he arrived in the country.

BI – FSU stated that he also had a warrant of arrest in the United States for allegedly smuggling drugs into the country for the Sinaloa Drug Cartel, and was also accused of using violence when collecting payments from the group’s customers.

“Agad tayong nagbuo ng tracker team upang siya’y hanapin. Napansin namin na medyo mailap yung subject dahil nung unang surveillance natin ay nakuha pa niyang lumipat ng bahay,” said BI – FSU chief Rendel Sy.

(We immediately formed a tracker team to find him. We noticed that the subject was elusive since he was able to move houses after our first surveillance.)

“Sinasabing siya ay miyembro ng Devil’s Disciple Gang kung saan siya ay nagdi-distribute ng metamphetamine at heroin sa kanyang area kung saan ang kanyang source ay ang Sinaloa Drug Cartel,” he added.

(He is said to be a member of Devil’s Disciple Gang, where he was said to be distributing metamphetamine and heroin sourced from the Sinaloa Drug Cartel in his area.

Sy said that the BI is now looking into his possible involvement in local crimes or drug-smuggling in the country before he is deported to the US.

The BI – FSU is conducting backtracking into parts of the country visited by the suspect to track possible Filipino accomplices who helped him hide. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/RF, GMA Integrated News
