NSC monitoring security situation for Duterte's birthday

The National Security Council (NSC) has been monitoring the security situation in the country as former President Rodrigo Duterte will be celebrating his birthday on Friday.

NSC Assistant Director General Jonathan Malaya said on Wednesday that so far, they have not monitored a "significant threat."

''We are monitoring closely the situation and as mentioned by 'yung ating Armed Forces of the Philippines Vice Chief of Staff kanina, wala pa naman kaming namo-monitor na significant na security threat with relation to the, kung ano ang pwede mangyari sa March 28 (we have not monitored any significant security threat in relation to what will happen on March 28),'' Malaya told Palace reporters.

The Philippine National Police previously said that it is preparing for the security of the birthday rally for former president Rodrigo Duterte in Davao del Norte later this week amid his detention in the Netherlands.

PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said the event will be conducted at Rotary Plaza in New Corellia, Davao del Norte.

On the former president's birthday, his daughter Veronica "Kitty" Duterte and common-law partner Honeylet Avanceña will visit him at the detention center in The Hague.

Earlier this month, Duterte was arrested and brought to The Hague for his alleged crimes against humanity in connection with his administration’s war on drugs. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
