Eleksyon 2025 gun ban: Over 2,000 firearms seized, says PNP

More than 2,000 firearms have been seized by law enforcers since the gun ban started on January 12, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

As of March 26, PNP data showed that there were 2,036 firearms confiscated ahead of the May midterm polls.

Data showed that these firearms were seized in checkpoints, during police response, anti-illegal drug operations, gun buy-busts, and other law enforcement operations.

PNP said that Metro Manila has the highest number of seized firearms, while Mimaropa has the least number of confiscated guns.

Further, the most common type of firearms that law enforcers got were revolvers with 812 and followed by pistols with 565.

Other types of firearms seized were rifles, shotguns, replicas, and explosives.

The PNP also said that there were so far 134 individuals arrested during gun buy-bust operations.

Moreover, the number of validated election-related incidents, both violent and non-violent incidents, remains at 11 with 1,969 individuals arrested. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
