Marcos to law enforcers this Holy Week: 'Hindi dapat matulog'
''Hindi dapat matulog kahit Holy Week.''
(They shouldn't sleep this Holy Week.)
This was the directive of President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. to law enforcement agencies this coming Lenten Season, according to Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro on Tuesday.
Law enforcement offices must ensure the security of the public during the Holy Week.
''Alam naman po natin na may mga pagkakataon na nagkakaroon pa rin, hindi maiiwasan na mayroong mangyayaring mga aksyon, mga krimen at hindi dapat matulog, iyan po ang direktiba ng Pangulo, hindi dapat matulog kahit Holy Week, kahit bakasyon ang karamihan; hindi dapat nagbabakasyon ang gobyerno,'' Castro said.
(We all know that there could be incidents, crimes and they shouldn't sleep, that's the directive of the President amid the Holy Week. While a lot of people are on vacation, the government should not observe vacation.)
''Patuloy pa rin po ang pagsasagawa ng mga monitoring at ang pagtulong sa ating kapwa Pilipino,'' she added.
(The monitoring and extending help to Filipinos must continue.)
Under Proclamation No. 727 issued by Malacañang, April 17 (Maundy Thursday) and April 18 (Good Friday) are regular holidays. Meanwhile, April 19 (Black Saturday) has been declared a special non-working day.
More than two million people are expected to flock to the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) during this year’s Holy Week to go home to their respective provinces or travel to Metro Manila.
PITX spokesperson Jason Salvador said that they prepared early for the upcoming holiday exodus as passengers may start arriving as early as April 9, Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor).
The Metro Rail Transit 3, both lines of the Light Rail Transit, and Philippine National Railways announced the suspension of their operations during the Holy Week to also give way to their annual maintenance activities. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
