SC issues show cause order vs. Pasig bet Ian Sia over single mom joke

The Supreme Court ssued a show cause order against congressional candidate Ian Sia amid complaints over his remark about sleeping with single moms

The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday issued a show cause order against lawyer and congressional candidate Christian “Ian” Sia amid complaints over his remark about sleeping with single mothers.

In a statement, the SC ordered Sia to explain within a non-extendible period of 10 days from notice why no disciplinary action should be taken against him.

The SC said that a complaint was filed against Sia by lawyers Allen Liberato-Espino and Michelle Laserna-Adricula.

This was followed by a letter from the Gabriela National Alliance of Filipino Women, asking the SC to look into the joke made by Sia.

Last week, Sia went viral on social media for saying that single mothers who still have their period and who are lonely may sleep with him once per year.

He later said that he was only joking, vowing that it will not happen again. He also appealed for a second chance from the public.

GMA News Online has sought comment from Sia but he did not respond about the SC order.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec), meanwhile, has issued a second show cause order (SCO) for Sia, this time over his alleged misogynistic remarks against his female staff during a campaign sortie.

The poll body, through the Task Force in Safeguarding against Fear and Exclusion in Elections (SAFE), on Tuesday ordered Sia to explain why he should not be disqualified from the May polls over his possible violation of its anti-discrimination resolution.

Comelec Resolution 1116 or the Anti-Discrimination and Fair Campaigning Guidelines, which includes discrimination against women and gender-based harassment. The resolution also covers acts of bullying and discrimination involving gender, ethnicity, age, religion, and disabilities, among others. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
