Over 1.18M passengers expected in NAIA for Holy Week 2025
The New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) on Wednesday said airport operations have been smooth so far during the Holy Week, with the operator expecting a 14% increase in passengers passing through the country’s main gateway during the eight-day period.
According to the NNIC, it expects over 1.18 million passengers to pass through NAIA from Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025, to Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, based on the early figures recorded—150,511 passengers on Palm Sunday, 142,560 passengers on April 14, Holy Monday, and 140,407 passengers on April 15, Holy Tuesday.
The daily figures are higher than those recorded in 2024—134,660 on Palm Sunday, 124,481 on Holy Monday, and 140,407 passengers on Holy Tuesday.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) earlier said it expects around 150,000 daily passengers to troop to the NAIA throughout the Holy Week exodus.
“This has been a strong start to the Holy Week period. We are especially grateful for the leadership and quick response of the Department of Transportation and the Bureau of Immigration, particularly in deploying more officers during peak hours,” NNIC president Ramon Ang said in an emailed statement.
The NNIC also clarified an online news report mentioning fewer passengers at Terminal 3 based on a photo taken around 11 a.m. on Holy Tuesday, which the operator said was a snapshot taken during non-peak hours and does not reflect the full-day totals or peak travel hours.
NNIC, made up of San Miguel Holdings Corp., RMM Asian Logistics Inc., RLW Aviaton Development Inc., and Incheon International Airport Corp., took over NAIA on September 14, 2024.
To recall, NNIC inked a P170.6-billion concession agreement with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to take over NAIA in March 2024, after it offered the highest share of its future revenues from operating the gateway to the government. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
