PNP monitors 120 incidents during Holy Week 2025

A total of 120 incidents, mostly drowning cases, were monitored during Holy Week, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Monday.

In a statement, the PNP said 64 of these incidents were drowning, 15 fire incidents, and 14 vehicular accidents.

Also monitored were three cases of acts of lasciviousness, two cases of alarm and scandal, one theft, and one robbery.

There were 20 incidents classified under “other categories.”

The PNP has yet to provide information on the number of casualties in these incidents as of posting time.

From April 13 to 20, 2025, the PNP also noted that there were only four incidents of focus crimes in this year’s Holy Week as compared to the nine recorded last year, which translated to a 55.56% decline.

“Of the eight-focus crimes, no incidents of murder, rape, or carnapping were reported during the Holy Week for both years. However, there was a recorded case of homicide in 2024 which dropped to zero this year. While physical injury cases increased slightly from one (1) in 2024 to two (2) in 2025, robbery/hold-up cases saw a significant decline from four (4) in 2024 to only one (1) this year. Theft cases also dropped from four (4) last year to one (1) incident this year,” the PNP said.

Despite these incidents, the PNP said the observance of the Holy Week this year has been generally peaceful with no major untoward incidents disrupting the religious tradition.

PNP chief Police General Rommel Marbil commended his personnel for their efforts to secure the annual event observed throughout the country.

“While the rest of the nation was on break, you were on duty. Because of your vigilance and presence, the entire observance of Holy Week was generally peaceful, with no major incidents recorded,” he said.

“That is a true testament to your commitment, professionalism, and sense of duty,” PNP Chief Marbil said in his message,” he added.

Marbil also acknowledged the cooperation and discipline of the public during the occasion.

“The PNP remains committed to sustaining peace and order through proactive policing, community engagement, and continuous public safety operations during all significant national events,” the PNP chief said. —RF, GMA Integrated News
