BJMP: Over 31,000 PDLs to vote in 2025 elections

A total of 31,750 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) are expected to cast their votes in the May 2025 midterm elections, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said on Friday.

“Sa kasalukuyan meron kaming, 31,750 na mga nakakulong na boboto ngayong darating na halalan. Ito po ay out of 115,791 ang total population ng mga nakakulong sa buong bansa,” BJMP spokesperson Jail Superintendent Jayrex Bustinera said in a press conference.

(Currently, we have 31,750 inmates who will vote this upcoming election. This is out of the total population of 115,791 PDLs nationwide.)

The BJMP manages 484 jail facilities nationwide.

Of which, 393 will serve as special polling precincts where the PDLs will do their voting. Less than 50 PDLs from these facilities will have to go outside to vote.

A total of 464 PDLs nationwide will have to leave their detention centers on election day.

According to Bustinera, there are seven PDLs running for senator, mayor, representative, vice mayor, and municipal councilor in the 2025 polls.

Election Day is on May 12, but overseas voters may cast their votes from April 13 to May 12, while local absentee voters may cast their votes from April 28 to 30. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
