Anson Que case: Lawyer questions detention of 2 Chinese respondents
A lawyer on Monday questioned the detention of two Chinese individuals who are being investigated in the death of Filipino-Chinese businessman Anson Que.
Lawyer Freidrick Lu said his two clients, Yang Haohua and Yuan Fangquiang, were initially reported as missing by their families in early April.
They later learned that the two had been arrested.
“Itong dalawang ito [These two], they were reported as missing by their families to the Chinese Embassy at ni-refer sa amin [were referred to us]. So sa process ng paghahanap namin doon namin nakita na nasa AKG sila,” Lu said in an ambush interview.
(So in the process of searching for them we learned that the AKG had them.)
He was at the Department of Justice to attend the preliminary probe into the kidnapping for ransom with homicide complaint filed against several individuals.
Yang and Yuan were among the individuals recommended for preliminary investigation.
Lu said the two are alleged to have received the ransom money to turn over to the kidnappers. However, he added, the authorities said Yang and Yuan are in the custody of the Anti-Kidnapping Group due to Immigration violations.
“Apart from the counter affidavit that we intend to file on the 8th of May, we also intend to file a writ of habeas corpus,” he said.
“A petition for issuance of writ of habeas corpus because we are going to question why are they still being held right now. Kasi kung totoo nga na sila ay BI ‘yung charge nila, bakit nasa AKG pa rin sila?” he added.
(If it's true that their charge is in relation to the BI, why are they with the AKG?)
The AKG has declined to comment on the proceedings. — BM, GMA Integrated News
