In a statement, the Philippine Army said these soldiers are designated at 661 checkpoints and 63,663 polling precincts.
“The deployment of Army personnel is part of the wider inter-agency coordination among the AFP, Comelec, and PNP to preempt and neutralize any threats of violence, intimidation, or electoral sabotage,” the Philippine Army said.
A total of 6,712 Army officers, enlisted personnel, CAFGU Active Auxiliary members, and reservists are deployed to assist in election checkpoints. On the other hand, a total of 9,777 Army personnel are deployed to secure polling centers.
For possible augmentation, a total of 12,377 Army personnel are on standby.
Deployed personnel also underwent briefings on their legal mandate and the guidelines outlined in the Philippine Army Guidelines based on the Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines for the upcoming polls.
"Our troops have undergone rigorous orientation on their roles during this critical democratic exercise. The Philippine Army is steadfastly committed to ensuring free, honest, and orderly elections,” Philippine Army commanding general Lieutenant General Roy Galido said.
Galido stressed the role of the Philippine Army in safeguarding democratic institutions especially in areas considered as election hot spots.
