DOTr asks PNP-ACG to investigate NAIA accident videos posted online
Social media users who illegally posted CCTV footage of the tragic SUV crash at the NAIA departure area on Sunday are facing investigation by the Philippine National Police-Anti-Cybercrime Group.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said he asked the PNP-ACG to conduct the probe. He said he also tapped the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) to investigate how the CCTV footage of the tragic incident was leaked to the public.
“At lahat nung mga YouTube or whatever na nag-post niyo, pinapa-imbestiga ko na at pinapahuli ko sa PNP Cybercrime chief,” Dizon said.(I’ve asked the PNP Cybercrime chief to investigate the social media accounts that posted the CCTV footage.)
Two people, including a five-year-old girl, were killed on Sunday morning when a black SUV rammed into the outer railing and the walkway of NAIA Terminal 1. Several others were injured and were brought to a nearby hospital.
Dizon appealed to the public to respect the victims’ families and avoid sharing photos or videos of the incident on social media.
“Ako nakikiusap na talaga ako sa inyo ng personal, huwag niyo namang i-take advantage ‘yung mga trahedya ng mga kababayan natin para mag-post ng mga video nung trahedya sa internet para lang kumita o para maka-scoop,” he said.
(I’m appealing to you personally, do not take advantage of the tragedies of our countrymen by posting videos of them on the internet to make money or to get a scoop.)“Maawa naman kayo sa mga pamilya… Maawa naman kayo. Mahiya naman kayo. Namatay na nga, pagkakakitaan niyo pa pa. Imo-monetize niyo pa diyan sa mga YouTube niyo o Facebook niyo,” he added.
(Have compassion on the families. You should be ashamed of yourselves. People have died, yet you still want to monetize from what happened on your YouTube or Facebook accounts.)So far, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has preventively suspended for 90 days the driver’s license of the motorist behind the accident.
A show cause order has also been issued by the LTO against the registered owner of the vehicle and the driver.
The SUV driver will also be subjected to a drug test, according to the DOTr. –NB, GMA Integrated News
