Marcos honors PCG seawoman killed in SCTEX mishap
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Tuesday honored the Philippine Coast Guard member who died in the multi-vehicle collision that killed 10 at an SCTEX toll gate on Labor Day.
Seawoman Second Class Dain Janica Alinas and her husband were in the compact SUV that was crushed in the mishap. Both were killed in the accident, while their two-year-old child survived.
''Before I begin, let us take a moment to honor and to remember Seawoman Second Class Dain Janica Rendoque Alinas,'' Marcos said in his speech during the oath-taking ceremony of the newly promoted PCG officers.
'"She is no longer with us, but her courage and dedication continue to live on. Allow me to extend my deepest condolences and prayers to her family and to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) community,'' he added.
The PCG earlier vowed to provide aid for the family left behind by Alinas, who was among the 10 casualties in the SCTEX crash along Tarlac.
PCG Commandant Ronnie Gil Gavan said that they would be providing Alinas’ family with P250,000 financial assistance on top of the aid given by other agencies.
They will also present Alinas with an award for her five years of service with the PCG. –NB, GMA Integrated News
