UP Diliman asks faculty: Give consideration to traveling students amid polls

The University of the Philippines (UP) campus in Diliman, Quezon City on Thursday requested its faculty to give due consideration to students who might face travel challenges amid the conduct of Eleksyon 2025.

In a Facebook post, the UP Diliman Office of the Chancellor noted that some students might be unable to attend classes on Tuesday, May 13, or the day after election day.

"In light of the national elections scheduled on Monday, May 12, faculty members are requested to extend consideration to students who may be absent from class on Tuesday, May 13, due to election-related travel," the announcement read.

UP Diliman, the main campus of the UP System, has a significant number of scholar enrollees from various provinces across the country.

While the Chancellor's office made the request, it also mentioned the option to employ alternative learning modalities.

"The discretion to shift to alternative modes of learning remains with the faculty, as the semester is ending and face-to-face activities may no longer be avoided or deferred at this time," it added.

Meanwhile, the UP Diliman Chancellor's office said heads of academic and administrative units "are expected to exercise the same consideration" to their staff by allowing flexible work arrangements, as needed.

Earlier this week, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. declared May 12, the day of the 2025 midterm national and local elections, as a special non-working holiday nationwide under Proclamation 878. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/ VDV, GMA Integrated News
