Marcos congratulates Anthony Albanese after reelection as Australia PM
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has congratulated Anthony Albanese on his reelection as Australia's prime minister.
''To my friend, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, on your resounding victory, congratulations. This renewed mandate speaks volumes of the trust and confidence your people have in your leadership,'' Marcos said in a video message on Thursday evening.''And I have no doubt you shall carry it forward with the same resolve and vision that you have long defined [in] your public service,'' he added.
Marcos acknowledged that the relations between the Philippines and Australia have grown stronger in the previous years, noting that this was anchored not just in shared values, but in genuine friendship.
''Perhaps this is a sign that it's time for another visit,'' Marcos said. ''I look forward to our next conversation, whether it's over a flat white down under or a rich cup of chocolate here in Old Manila.''
In February 2024, Marcos went to Canberra, Australia for a two-day official visit where he addressed the Australian parliament as he sought Australia's support amid regional threats. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
