Over 4,000 inmates qualified to vote for Eleksyon 2025

A total of 4,125 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from various prisons and penal farms nationwide are qualified to vote for the elections on May 12, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said Friday.

Of this number, BuCor said that 2,135 are confined at the New Bilibid Prison, 924 at the Davao Prison and Penal Farm, 421 at the Leyte Regional Prison, 290 at the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm, and 140 at the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm.

Meanwhile, 123 are confined at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City and 92 at the CIW-Mindanao.

BuCor said that PDLs who are qualified include those confined in jail or those formally charged and undergoing trial; those serving an imprisonment sentence of less than a year; those whose convictions involve disloyalty, such as rebellion, sedition, violation of the firearms laws, or any crime against national security; or those who are on appeal.

BuCor Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. also ordered all superintendents to ensure the orderly and peaceful conduct of the elections. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
