Angara: Teachers deserve poll pay hike

DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara said teachers deserve the poll pay hike

Education Secretary Sonny Angara on Saturday welcomed the approval of a P2,000 across-the-board hike on the compensation of teachers and other poll workers serving in Eleksyon 2025.

Angara thanked President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah Pangandaman for their “swift action” to increase the election allowance of electoral board members.

“Our teachers face responsibility and risk every election. They deserve this compensation for going above and beyond classroom duties,” Angara said in a statement, emphasizing the critical role of teachers in the democratic process.

The Department of Education (DepEd) chief also thanked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in advance, hoping that the allowances will be efficiently distributed.

“Our teachers deserve our urgency,” he added.

According to DepEd, 281,587 of its personnel will benefit from the poll pay hike, which covers honoraria, miscellaneous allowances, and service credits.

The adjusted honoraria rates for those serving in Electoral Boards are as follows:

  • P12,000 from the previous P10,000 for the chairperson
  • P11,000 from the previous P9,000 for the poll clerk
  • P11,000 from the previous P9,000 for the 3rd member
  • P8,000 from the previous P6,000 for the support staff
